ELT365 · Day 190 — Monitoring Speaking Tasks

📚60-Day ELT Masterclass — This post is part of an ongoing series. View full index →

Idea — While learners speak, the teacher monitors: listening for errors, noting effective language, ensuring the task is working. Monitoring is not hovering.

Example — Good monitoring means moving quietly, listening briefly, moving on — not standing over one pair for three minutes.

Try — During your next speaking task, monitor for two things only: are they on task? and what is the commonest error? Note both.
