ELT365 · Day 198 — Planning a Piece of Writing

📚60-Day ELT Masterclass — This post is part of an ongoing series. View full index →

Idea — Planning before writing improves coherence and reduces mid-draft paralysis. Teaching learners to plan is itself a productive-skill lesson.

Example — A mind map, a bullet-point list, or a paragraph-by-paragraph outline — any visible structure before drafting helps.

Try — Before a writing task, give learners five minutes to create a plan in any format. Then write. Compare quality with an unplanned attempt.
