ELT365 · Day 171 — Jigsaw reading: split the text, share the meaning

Idea — In jigsaw reading, different groups read different parts of a text, then regroup to share what they know. The information gap creates a real communicative reason to speak.

Example — Group A reads about the causes of a problem; Group B reads about the effects. They regroup in A+B pairs to build a complete picture — neither has it alone.

Try — Take a 300-word text. Split it into two equal sections. Give each to a different group. Set a comprehension task for each part. Then regroup. Did the discussion feel purposeful?
