ELT365 · Day 199 — Drafting

July 17, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — First drafts are for getting ideas down — fluency over accuracy. Teaching learners to draft without self-editing first is a skill in itself.

Example — ‘Write for five minutes without stopping. Spelling and grammar can be fixed later.’ This is timed free-writing, and it works.

Try — Set a five-minute timed free-write on any topic. No backspacing, no erasing. Collect the drafts and note the ideas — not the errors.
