ELT365 · Day 204 — Paragraphing and organisation

📚60-Day ELT Masterclass — This post is part of an ongoing series. View full index →

Idea — A paragraph holds one main idea, often with a topic sentence and support. Teaching learners to plan paragraphs before writing prevents the wall-of-text that buries meaning.

Example — One paragraph for advantages, one for disadvantages, gives an essay an instantly readable shape.

Try — Hand learners a jumbled set of sentences. Ask them to group them into two paragraphs by idea before writing anything new.
