ELT365 · Day 180 — Six common receptive-skills lesson mistakes

📚60-Day ELT Masterclass — This post is part of an ongoing series. View full index →

Idea — Common errors: skipping lead-in; pre-teaching too many words; asking for detail before gist; replaying audio immediately when learners struggle; using transcripts as a shortcut; no productive follow-up.

Example — Playing audio three times straight without a task trains dependence on repetition, not listening strategy. Learners stop trying after one listen.

Try — Review your last reading or listening lesson. How many of these six errors appeared? Pick one to address next time.
