Idea — Scanning means moving quickly over a text to find specific information without reading everything. It is purposeful and selective.

Example — Finding a name in a phone book or a price on a menu — the reader isn’t reading; they are searching.

Try — Give learners a 400-word article and ask them to find five specific facts in 60 seconds. Time it. Discuss how their eyes moved.
