ELT365 · Day 167 — Reading: Skimming
Idea — Skimming for reading is a timed pass over the text to capture the main idea. The reader uses headings, first sentences, and final sentences and leaves the middle for later.
Example — A three-paragraph article. Learners have thirty seconds. They report the topic after looking only at the first line of each paragraph.
Try — Set a strict time limit on a short page. Ask for one sentence only. Anyone who finishes the whole text has not skimmed.
