ELT365 · Day 186 — What makes speaking hard for learners

June 29, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Speaking demands real-time processing: grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and interaction simultaneously. Learners have no time to plan. Anxiety compounds everything.

Example — A learner who writes accurate B2 essays may speak at A2 level — not from ignorance but from processing overload in real time.

Try — Ask your learners what makes speaking hard. List their answers. Address the top two in your next speaking lesson.
