ELT365 · Day 167 — Reading: Skimming

June 26, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Skimming means reading quickly for a general impression — what the text is about, its tone, its structure. Readers skip freely and skip often.

Example — Reading the first sentence of each paragraph to decide if an article is worth reading fully — that is skimming in action.

Try — Give a 500-word text. Task: read it in 90 seconds and write one sentence summarising it. No looking back. Discuss what was caught and what wasn’t.
