Idea — Inference means deriving meaning that the writer implies but does not state. It requires combining text signals with background knowledge.

Example — “She put her coat back on.” In context, this implies the room became cold or a decision was reversed — nothing is stated directly.

Try — Write three sentences with implied meanings. Ask learners: what can we infer? What in the text tells us that?
