Idea — Detailed comprehension tasks target specific information — facts, figures, sequences, or attitudes — and require a second or third pass. They follow gist; they never precede it.

Example — After establishing that a text is about a delayed flight (gist), learners find the departure time, the reason for delay, and the new gate number (detail).

Try — Check your existing comprehension questions: are any gist tasks disguised as detail tasks? Reorder them — gist always comes first.
