Idea — Critical reading tasks ask learners to evaluate a text — to judge bias, distinguish fact from opinion, or assess the writer’s purpose. This is reading as active dialogue.
Example — A newspaper headline using “crumbles” and “soars” is evaluative where a neutral report gives data. Spotting this is critical reading in practice.
Try — Take any short article. Ask learners to underline facts in blue, opinions in red. Discuss what the ratio reveals about the text type.
