Idea — Intensive reading involves reading a short text closely, attending to grammar, vocabulary, discourse, and meaning. It builds language awareness. It is slow, deliberate, and teacher-guided.

Example — A class reads one paragraph of a short story, circling all past-tense verbs, then discusses why the author chose each one.

Try — Select a 100-word paragraph. Ask learners to underline every linking word. Debrief: how does each connector change the meaning of the sentence that follows it?
