Idea — Scanning moves the eye rapidly over a text in search of one specific item — a name, a date, a price. The reader ignores everything else. It is purposeful, efficient, and a core real-world skill.
Example — Reading a train timetable to find the last departure to Lyon. The eye jumps to the ‘Lyon’ column; nothing else is processed.
Try — Give learners a classified-ads page. Ask them to find the cheapest one-bedroom flat in 60 seconds. Debrief: what strategy did they use?
