Idea — Freer practice gives learners a communicative goal and allows any language to reach it. The target structure may appear but is not forced — fluency and meaning come first.

Example — After drilling “I used to…”, learners interview a partner about childhood. The structure is likely but not mandatory — communication is the aim.

Try — Design a freer practice task where the target structure will naturally arise but is not compulsory. Test it: could a learner complete the task without using it?
