Idea — Practice moves along a cline: controlled (drills, gap-fills) builds accuracy with heavy support; freer (role-play, discussion) builds fluency with little. Most lessons should travel from one to the other.

Example — Drilling "I'd like a…" then role-playing a café order moves controlled to freer in minutes.

Try — Take a target structure and sketch two stages: one tightly controlled, one free. The order matters — support first.
