Professional English · Lesson 07 — Summarizing — The Skill That Runs Every Meeting

Summarizing in English means capturing key points accurately and briefly. It closes discussions, confirms agreement, and moves things forward.

Examples

‘So to summarize: we agreed to [X], [Y] will handle [Z] by [date], and we’ll revisit this on [day].’
Fifty words. Meeting closed.

Practice

After your next conversation or meeting, summarize it in three sentences. Share the summary if appropriate. Did everyone agree on what was decided?

Takeaway: The person who summarizes controls the outcome.
