Professional English · Lesson 01 — Email Openings — Start Professional Every Time

July 14, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

How you open an email sets the tone for everything that follows. Three openings cover 90% of professional situations.

Examples

  • ‘I hope this email finds you well.’ (neutral, any recipient)
  • ‘Thank you for your email of [date].’ (reply)
  • ‘I am writing to enquire about…’ (new contact, formal)

Practice

Read your last three sent emails. Which opening did you use each time? Could any of them be more specific and less generic?

Takeaway: A specific opening is always stronger than a generic one.
