I have been on both sides of the interview table. As a manager in Sydney, I interviewed hundreds of candidates. The ones who got the job were not always the most qualified — they were the most specific. They gave one example, not a general claim. When I was interviewed for the sommelier role at Uccello, I described one specific wine, one specific guest, one specific outcome. That specificity is what interviewers in English-speaking cultures listen for.
📚 The 5 Questions & Frameworks
- “Tell me about yourself.” → Past, Present, Future (2 minutes max)
- “What are your strengths?” → Name one. Give a specific example. State the result.
- “Tell me about a challenge you faced.” → Use STAR: Situation, Task, Action, Result.
- “Why do you want this job?” → Link what they need to what you offer.
- “Do you have any questions?” → Always say yes. Ask one smart question.
