ELT365 · Day 177 — Text types and genre awareness
Idea — Different genres — emails, recipes, news, stories — have predictable shapes. Knowing the genre helps readers predict structure and purpose, speeding comprehension before close reading begins.
Example — A recipe means an ingredient list then steps; recognising that, a reader scans efficiently for quantities.
Try — Show three short texts with titles removed. Ask learners to name each genre and say which features gave it away.
