Idea — True/False/Not Given tasks train learners to distinguish what the text says from what they believe. The third option — Not Given — is harder than it looks: absence of information is a linguistic skill.
Example — ‘The company was founded in 1999.’ If the text says 2001, False. If the text doesn’t mention founding date at all, Not Given.
Try — Write three T/F/NG items for a text you use. Swap with a colleague. Did they agree on the answers? Disagreements reveal ambiguity in your items — revise them.
