ELT365 · Day 159 — Predicting before you listen or read
Idea — Prediction activates schema and creates a reason to engage. A two-minute lead-in — images, a title, one question — makes the whole listening or reading more efficient.
Example — Before playing a news audio clip, show the headline and ask: ‘What three things do you expect to hear?’ Learners engage actively from the first second.
Try — Design a 90-second lead-in for a listening text you use: one image or question, one prediction prompt. Time it with a stopwatch — lead-ins should be short.
