ELT365 · Day 156 — Scanning: Purposeful Speed in Reading

July 6, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Scanning means moving quickly over a text to locate specific information — a date, a name, a price — without reading everything. It is purposeful speed, not careless reading.

Example — Finding a departure time on a timetable: eyes skip the irrelevant columns and land on the one that answers the question.

Try — Give learners a short article and five specific-information questions. Time them at 90 seconds. Scanning improves with repeated timed practice.
