Idea
Every lesson needs one main aim — the primary thing learners will be better able to do by the end. Subsidiary aims are language or skills practised along the way.
Example
Main aim: learners practise making polite requests using ‘could you…’. Subsidiary: reading for gist; pronunciation of weak forms.
Try
Write a main aim and two subsidiary aims for your next lesson. Check: is the main aim the biggest thing you are teaching?
