ELT365 · Day 210 — Assessing productive skills formatively
Idea — Formative assessment in productive skills captures evidence of progress during learning, not just at the end. Observation, self-assessment, and peer feedback all serve this purpose without requiring formal tests.
Example — A speaking checklist learners complete after a role play: ‘Did I use three linking words? Did I ask at least two questions?’ takes 2 minutes and builds metacognitive awareness.
Try — Write a three-item self-assessment checklist for a speaking or writing task you plan this week. Give it to learners after the task. Read their responses before the next lesson.
