Idea — A full productive lesson moves through four stages: exposure to model language → focus on form and meaning → controlled practice → free production. Skipping stages is common; each skip costs accuracy or confidence.

Example — Skipping the model (stage 1) means learners write free essays without knowing what good writing looks like. Skipping controlled practice means free production is too hard too fast.

Try — Map your last writing or speaking lesson against these four stages. Which did you include? Which did you skip? Would adding the missing stage have changed the output?
