Idea — Fluency means communicating smoothly without excessive pausing or breakdown. Accuracy means using correct forms. Neither is superior — different tasks prioritise one.
Example — A role-play values fluency: finishing the task matters. A grammar drill values accuracy: the form is the point. Mixing criteria in feedback confuses learners.
Try — Observe a learner speaking for 60 seconds. Record only errors for 30 seconds, then only hesitations. Discuss what each list reveals.
