Idea — Speaking and writing are productive skills — learners generate language, not receive it. Both require simultaneous control of form, meaning, and discourse.

Example — Answering a question aloud demands grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, and real-time meaning-making all at once. Writing adds the demands of accuracy and organisation.

Try — Think of one speaking task and one writing task you use. For each, list three things learners must control simultaneously.
