ELT365 · Day 181 — Month 6 review — receptive skills

July 2, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — This month covered: receptive skill types · top-down/bottom-up · gist and detail tasks · skimming and scanning · authentic vs graded texts · pre-teaching · inference · genre · bridging to production. One big idea: give listening and reading a purpose before learners start.

Example — A lesson without a gist task is like giving learners a destination without telling them which city they’re going to. Purpose first; language second.

Try — Which of this month’s ideas will you try first? Write one sentence: the lesson, the day number, and what you’ll change. Share it with a colleague.
