ELT365 · Day 180 — Receptive to productive — the bridge

July 2, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — A receptive task should not end with comprehension. The best lessons bridge to production: learners discuss, react, write, or apply what they have read or heard. The text becomes a springboard.

Example — After reading an opinion article, learners write a 50-word response agreeing or disagreeing. The text gave them the ideas and some of the language; now they use both.

Try — Add one productive follow-up task to a receptive lesson you already teach. It should reuse at least two pieces of language from the text and ask for the learner’s opinion.
