ELT365 · Day 177 — Staging a reading lesson — the full sequence

June 29, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Reading lesson order: lead-in → set context → pre-teach two key words → gist task → check → detail task → check → language focus or productive follow-up.

Example — Skip the lead-in and learners arrive cold. Skip the gist task and learners go straight to detail, missing the overall meaning first.

Try — Map your next reading lesson against this sequence. Which stage do you most often cut? What do learners lose without it?
