ELT365 · Day 176 — Authentic and graded texts in reading

June 24, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Authentic texts are written for real readers; graded texts are simplified for level. Authentic material motivates and shows real language, but you support it with task design rather than rewriting.

Example — A real café menu is usable at beginner level if the task is only "find one cheap dish".

Try — Take a genuine text — leaflet, post, label — and write a task simple enough for your learners. Grade the task, not the text.
