Idea — As with listening, a lead-in that activates prior knowledge makes reading easier and faster. Predicting from title, images or topic primes the vocabulary and ideas the text will use.

Example — Before an article on sleep, asking "how many hours did you sleep?" surfaces the topic's language in advance.

Try — Plan a 60-second pre-reading step for your next text: one question or image that wakes the topic before learners read a word.
