ELT365 · Day 169 — Authentic vs Graded Texts

July 16, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Authentic texts are written for native speakers — unmodified. Graded texts are simplified for a target level. Both have classroom uses.

Example — A B1 class gains from a graded version of a news story; a C1 class benefits from the original.

Try — Take one authentic text. Identify two features that make it hard for your learners. Decide: simplify the text, or simplify the task?
