ELT365 · Day 158 — Scanning

July 16, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Scanning means moving quickly across a text to find specific information without reading every word. Readers use visual cues: numbers, proper nouns, keywords.

Example — Finding a phone number in a directory — your eyes sweep the column until the format triggers a stop.

Try — Give learners a dense text and one specific fact to find. Time them. Most can do this faster than they expect.
