ELT365 · Day 154 — Gist tasks — one question, whole text

July 3, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — A gist task poses one global question answered by hearing the whole text. It prevents learners from switching off once they catch a single familiar word.

Example — “What is the main topic of this conversation?” is a gist task. “What time does the train leave?” is a detail task — do not start there.

Try — Write one gist question for a two-minute audio clip you use in class.
