ELT365 · Day 152 — What Are Receptive Skills?
Idea — Reading and listening are receptive skills — learners receive meaning without producing language. That doesn’t make them passive; comprehension requires active mental work.
Example — A learner listens to a news report: they hear words, infer meaning from context, and construct understanding. None of that happens automatically.
Try — List three things a learner must do mentally to understand a short spoken text. Compare your list with a partner.
