ELT365 · Day 205 — Peer feedback: setting it up so it works

Idea — Peer feedback fails when learners just say ‘it is good.’ It works when they have a specific criterion: ‘Does the first sentence tell you the main idea? Can you find one example?’

Example — Learner A reads B’s paragraph and answers: ‘What is the main idea? Is there an example? Does the last sentence link forward?’ Now feedback is a task, not a compliment.

Try — Write three peer-feedback criteria for a writing task you will set this week. Make each a yes/no question with a follow-up. Pilot the peer-review stage.
