Idea — Marking every error overwhelms learners and teaches them to feel bad, not to improve. Choose one or two patterns — ideally the ones that most affect meaning or reflect today’s teaching aim.
Example — A B1 essay has fifteen errors. You mark three: all missing articles in the first paragraph. ‘Check articles — see three examples I have marked. Try to self-correct.’
Try — Try focused feedback on one error type only in your next marking session. Write what you focused on at the top of the page. Note whether learners engage differently.
