ELT365 · Day 189 — Monitoring — what to do while learners speak
Idea — While learners do a speaking task, the teacher’s job is to listen, note language, and not interrupt — unless a learner is completely stuck. Facilitate, do not teach.
Example — Move quietly around the room. Note three strong uses of target language and two errors. Use both in your delayed feedback, not during the task.
Try — Prepare a monitoring grid: one column for strong language, one for errors. Use it in your next speaking lesson.
