ELT365 · Day 188 — Discussion tasks — the problem of unequal turns
Idea — In open discussion, confident speakers dominate and quieter learners produce nothing. Structured turns, written preparation, and talking tokens level the participation.
Example — “Discuss” with six learners = two speak, four wait. “Each person states one point using the prompt card, then pass” = all six contribute.
Try — Add a turn structure or a talking token rule to your next discussion task.
