ELT365 · Day 182 — What Is a Productive Skill?

July 17, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Productive skills are speaking and writing — language goes out. Learners encode meaning and send it, rather than decode incoming text.

Example — A learner explains their weekend plans in English. No one is testing their input processing — they are creating output.

Try — Ask learners to write three sentences about their morning without looking at any English source. Pure production. Note what they struggle with.
