ELT365 · Day 174 — Detailed Reading Tasks

June 26, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Detailed reading tasks require learners to locate, understand, and often infer specific information. They follow gist — they never precede it.

Example — ‘Find three reasons the author believes public transport is underfunded’ requires close reading, not just a general impression.

Try — Write five comprehension questions for a text. Classify each: gist, specific detail, or inference. Ensure at least one falls in each category.
