ELT365 · Day 172 — Designing Pre-Reading Tasks

June 26, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Pre-reading warms up the topic, activates vocabulary, and gives readers a reason to read. It should predict content, not pre-teach or spoil it.

Example — ‘Look at the headline. What do you think happened? Who wrote this?’ — purpose and prediction, not vocabulary explanation.

Try — Design a pre-reading stage for a text you use. Write two questions that activate knowledge without revealing content.
