Idea — Skimming means reading quickly to get the overall meaning — without reading every word. The eyes move fast across headlines, first lines, and concluding sentences to build a mental map.

Example — A student glances through a three-paragraph email to decide if it requires a reply. They read maybe 20% of the words.

Try — Give learners a full-page article and 90 seconds. Task: write one sentence saying what the text is about. Debrief whether they needed to read every word.
