ELT365 · Day 153 — Reading vs listening — two different challenges

June 28, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Reading is self-paced; learners can re-read. Listening is real-time — the sound disappears. Each demands different sub-skills and different lesson staging.

Example — A B2 reader who handles a newspaper article fluently may still struggle with the same article read aloud at natural speed.

Try — List one skill a reader needs that a listener does not, and one a listener needs that a reader does not.
