ELT365 · D164 — Transcript Work: When Showing the Text Helps

July 13, 2026 · Sourov · 1 min read

Idea — Showing the transcript after listening helps learners connect sounds to spelling and see where they were confused. Never show it before — it turns listening into reading.

Example — After three listens, learners read the transcript and mark words they didn’t catch. ‘Phone’ heard as ‘bone’? Now they hear the /f/.

Try — Design a transcript activity for a recording you use. Learners compare what they heard vs what was said. Debrief: what patterns caused confusion?
