ELT365 · Day 168 — Reading for specific information: scanning
Idea — Scanning a reading text for specific information is a search for one fact. The reader moves quickly until the target appears and then stops.
Example — A short biography. The question is only “When was she born?” The eyes run until the year appears; the rest of the life story stays unread.
Try — Give learners a timetable and three questions, each asking for one number. Time the search. Note who reads full lines.
