💬 A student once told me: “I am loving this city!” She’d arrived in Sydney two hours earlier. The feeling made perfect sense — but English grammar didn’t agree. Let me show you why.
The Rule in One Line
Use Present Simple for habits, facts, and routines.
Use Present Continuous for actions happening right now or temporary situations.
✅ Present Simple
- I teach English every day.
- She works at a hotel.
- Water boils at 100°C.
🔄 Present Continuous
- I am teaching a lesson now.
- She is working late this week.
- The water is boiling — turn it off!
⚡ Stative Verbs — Never Use -ing
Some verbs describe states, not actions: love, like, know, believe, want, need, understand, hate, seem.
Say: I love this city. ❌ Not: I am loving this city.
